CURRENTS OF LIFE II
Impressionism and Post Impressionism can be seen as the start of the struggle to free painting from its solely descriptive duty in order to create a new language and role providing other art forms such as photography to herald the advent of Modernism. Gauguin wrote: “Think of the musical role color will henceforth play in modern painting and art forms. Color, which is vibration just as music is, is able to attain what is most universal yet at the same time most elusive in nature: its inner force.” This portfolio continues how water currents symbolize the “currents of life” when viewed through the lens of a painterly photographer.
