CURRENTS OF LIFE I

Water currents represent more than just the flow of water; they embody the vitality, energy, and ever-changing nature of life itself. Like the ebb and flow of the tide, life is characterized by cycles of growth, change, and renewal. Water currents also adapt and respond to changes in the environment, shaping the landscape and influencing ecosystems. Similarly, life is marked by resilience and adaptation in the face of challenges and adversity. For these reasons and many more, I reverently title these three portfolios within as The Currents of Life. The Impressionist painters were particularly interested in dynamic aspects of the real, in anything that spoke of speedy flux. The sense of change was crucial – including the change in movement of light and color. Water currents are the embodiment of this ideal. Water currents create dynamic motion within the landscape, whether it’s a flowing river, a rushing stream, or gentle ripples on a lake’s surface. Also, reflections add depth and complexity to the composition, blurring the distinction between reality and abstraction. From a painterly focus, I endeavor to play with these textural gifts to create endless possibilities of images that evoke a sense of beauty, mystery, and wonder.
