ABSTRACT and
EXPRESSIONISTIC

Expressionism and Abstraction were key early trends in the development of Modern Art. I believe artists wanted their medium to become more like music, conveying emotion and meaning by suggestion, heightened sensation, and free association, rather than by description of forms and appearances. In this portfolio, my work, in most instances, departs from representational accuracy and the reduction of visual elements to their more essential forms, colors, and patterns. The photos focus on capturing the emotional essence of a scene or subject rather than a literal interpretation, using visual elements that are intended to evoke a visceral experience for interpreting the image subjectively. Kandinsky exemplified how the media of painting and photography share expressionistic and abstract qualities. His artworks explore the interaction of color, form, and line to convey subjective awareness and inner states of being. As a photographer, I also aim to evoke cross-sensory experiences by imbuing images with a sense of rhythm or narrative that transcends the purely visual realm and engages on a more immersive level.
